Nearly 15,000 athletes, from over 200 nations, in 800-odd events... and more than 800,000 tweets a day. London 2012 has already been dubbed the social media Olympics and just about everybody who is anybody in social media is showcasing what they can do. So it seems like a good time to check....

A TED talk caught my eye the other day because it was about washing machines and, as it happens, I’ve written a fair bit about them over the years. Not only that, but the speaker’s profile claimed that “in Hans Rosling’s hands, data sings.”
